TRURO - New charges have been laid against a woman believed to be the mother of a man charged in a kidnapping and assault case.

Kathy Madelyn Nash appeared in provincial court on Wednesday for arraignment on four charges which included being an accessory after the fact in assisting Kyle David Ryan Wheaton for the purpose of enabling him to escape knowing he committed bodily harm, kidnapping the victim with the intent to cause her to be confined, unlawfully confining the victim and obstructing a peace officer.

Nash, 56, was originally charged with four counts - one each of being an accessory to kidnapping after the fact, being a party to kidnapping, being an accessory to unlawful confinement after the fact and being a party to unlawful confinement.

Those charges were withdrawn in court when the others were brought forth.

The new charges are alleged to have occurred between March 31 and April 1 in Truro.

Wheaton, 26, is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement, kidnapping, public mischief by misleading police and failing to comply with an undertaking. The incidents are alleged to have occurred between April 1 and 9 in Truro.

He's also charged with assault, uttering a death threat, mischief or property damage, failing to comply with an undertaking, failing to appear for identification purposes and failing to attend court.

The alleged victim in Wheaton's charges is the same victim named in Nash's.

With the new charges comes a new undertaking for Nash. The undertaking includes a condition to not have any communication directly or indirectly with Wheaton or the female victim.

Both Nash and Wheaton are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 5 at 9:30 a.m. for plea.
