MILLBROOK - Millbrook's former chief will soon know if he will hold that title in another community.
Lawrence Paul, 77, is one of five people vying for the top position with Shubenacadie First Nation in Indian Brook. Other candidates are Lance Bernard; Rufus Copage, a former band councillor; Ron Knockwood, the only member of Indian Brook's current council running for chief; and David Nevin, who has worked for the band in economic development.
The community will vote for its chief and band council on Friday.
Paul's role as chief of Millbrook First Nation came to an end in February after being defeated by Robert Gloade. He had been chief of Millbrook for 28 years.
Paul is known for helping develop the Truro Power Centre and improving the community's finances. His goal, if elected as chief in Indian Brook, is to see more young people pursue an education beyond high school and economic development.
Indian Brook is the second largest native reserve in the province.
