TATAMAGOUCHE - The cause of a weekend fire in Tatamagouche is still unknown.

The Tatamagouche Fire Department responded to a fire at the end of Highland Road at about midnight on Saturday. There were no injuries reported but the old two-storey farmhouse was destroyed, confirmed Tatamagouche fire chief Jim Forbes.

"Nobody was in it at the time of the fire ... there were only two walls left when we arrived," said Forbes. "It burned to the ground; a total loss."

Forbes said the case was passed to the fire marshal and no details had been released.

About 25 firefighters were on scene for 3.5 hours with mutual aid provided from the Wallace fire brigade.

Forbes reminds the public to have working

smoke detectors in their homes and practice common sense in relation to fire safety.
