TRURO - Despite rumblings throughout the summer of a decrease in construction activity, Colchester County building permits suggest otherwise.
So far this year, the municipality has recorded a total of 546 building permits valued at $41,457,510.
For the same period last year, the total was 442 permits – 104 fewer – valued at $34,515,700 (a difference of $6,941,810).
For the fiscal year, which begins April 1, the county recorded 464 permits (up to the end of September) valued at $35,056,610, compared to 360 permits valued at $28,114,800 for the same period last year.
"We're running a little bit ahead of last year, which is a good sign," Mayor Bob Taylor said, when the figures were reported during this week's council meeting.
