TRURO – The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre’s opening has been pushed back yet again.

Topics :
Project Steering Committee

The centre was to open its doors on a user-pay system in December, however that has changed because of unforeseeable construction delays, specifically in the arena.

Construction managers with PCL are working closely with the Project Steering Committee to ensure the centre opens as soon as possible.

No date as been released yet.

The effective date for memberships in the centre will also change, with a new date announced once confirmed.

Membership information and details are on the project’s website – www.ignitethespirit.ca - or by calling 893-2224.

My family makes above the average income for Truro at 6 figures but we still can't afford this... this is great for the Stanfields, Pye's, Macquarries, etc. Sucks to be the rest of us!

The SkyDome cost over 500 million to build and the organizers couldn't get enough bookings to make any money . Unable to cover operating costs, the organizers sold the DOME for 25 MILLION dollars, 4% of construction cost to Rogers Communications which ironically, was owned by some of the organizers, who promptly renamed the place Rogers Center! ......Can anyone here not see that as operating costs become unmanageable at the new Cental Nova Civic Center, the town/county , forced by tax payer demand, will have to sell the place for pennies on the dollar, about $2.4 million based on construction costs of 60 million, to.....can anyone not see this place becoming the Rath Eastlink Center.....

Ill tell ya what's not a surprise.. That the fact that whenever a new cool thing comes to this town that may put us on the map everyone complains. Shut up people. My god this is how the world moves forward. The new civic center is something we should have had 10 years ago. You won't be complaining when concerts, home shows ect are held there. And other big events that will bring ppl to out town to spend money which will help out the smaller business. Get over it cuz it's not going no where's. I can think of many other worse things our tax dollars go towards.

I agree no surprise here. I think this falls back on the construction manager, PCL. But really does the steering committee know what they doing? Absolutely not!

Good . They should demolish it while they are at it so the town can move on . We can't afford the million or so a year it will cost to keep this going and all the high paying bureaucratic salaries of the people that sit on top of it . We're in an economic collapse . We need to get rid of this , get out of the 20 Million Dollar downtown master plan , and get our taxes down to make it as easy on people as possible , and so we will be able to afford basic services like road repairs . We already have the Community College Gym which offers a lot more for a lot less , which they are closing . This 50 million dollar civic center is pure gluttony , especially in a low income town . We'll never get a sense of community back unless we get rid of it .

You're wrong; there'll never be a sense of community unless judgmental trolls such as yourself fall back into the woodwork. I'm not saying I'm supporting this project (it is taking funding from certain more vital areas). However EVERY post I've seen from you is utterly vile: you have so much hate for people who have different ideas in this world. I believe Socrates did say that all he knew was that he knew nothing. Perhaps good words for you to live by; you can have all the practical knowledge you want, but until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes, you can't possibly judge them for their beliefs.

I thought this center was suppose to be affordable for the average Colchester Citizen, the fees they are proposing to charge are out of my reach and I feel I am average to above average financially. I had look forward to using the facility when it opened but with a family of three I certainly can't afford or am willing to pay almost $2000 a year for memberships, that is ridiculous. Lower prices will bring in more people which would mean more revenue I would think in long run, as more people could afford to use it. If they keep prices as they propose now I would suspect that they are going to be belly up fast because next to nobody is going to get memberships. I have been waiting patiently for this facility to open and looked forward to using the walking track and gym but I will stick to my currently free routine oppose to paying such high prices and I suspect everyone else will do the same. Such a waste of a nice building.

This place will be run just like the Truro Golf Club, high membership fees, no members...just the rich folk or single people coming out....wait, oh yeah, those in charge of the civic center also run the golf club....hmmm, coincidence? When membership targets aren't being met, expect a reduction in the daily "green fee" rate. When that doesn't meet revenue needs expect a sudden drop or specials on membership rates. If that happens, this facility will be well on its way to being owned by the organizers/backers behind it....you watch...HAPPY said it first!

Wow, paint issues and sand blasting....what a mess that is going to make on people's $500 donated seats. Maybe it is one that hasn't been installed yet......This building has becomeUSED before ever opening....sad. No parking, no sidewalks, no transit, and now dust and grit everywhere....everywhere! The saga of this PC tory building keeps going on and on and on.......

Hey Kit , you talk about "hate for people who have different ideas" , it's people that believe in censorship that have a hate for other peoples ideas . We're facing censorship from our society , government , media while people try to ram certain agendas down our throats . I believe in Freedom of Speech . And it's people that speak the truth that have a love for others . And for people that don't repent God will judge them on Judgement Day .

Surprise, Surprise. This mistake of a building will also end up costing a whole lot more than anticipated. And when it does get finished, if it gets finished, it will be too expensive for the ordinary citizen to use. What a waste of resources.
