TRURO - First impressions of the new hospital have been very positive, says the spokeswoman for the Colchester East Hants Health Authority.
Krista Wood said about 800 people toured the new Colchester East Hants Health Centre on Saturday.
It was the first of two public tours of the new facility, located on Abenaki Road in Truro. The next tour is this Saturday between 2 and 4 p.m.
"People were starting to line up at 8:30 in the morning," Wood said of the past weekend's event that didn't begin until mid-afternoon.
"It shows there's a lot of interest and people were impressed that there's more space and how bright and more open this facility is," said Wood.
"The wow factor was the new technology. People were also impressed with dialysis space, how easy it is to get to services like blood services and chemo ... and with the technology" such as the MRI, helipad and the balcony in the palliative care unit.
The tour takes about an hour to go through the new hospital. Wood said there is quite a bit of walking and there are a limited amount of wheelchairs available for those who require assistance.
The week of Nov. 19 will be the official moving week from the current hospital to the new site. The public tours are part of early ceremonial opening celebrations, which will also include a special by-invite only gathering this weekend. Premier Darrell Dexter will participate in the private session.
