PICTOU – A local company sentenced in connection with the death of a wind farm employee and his friend will return to court in December to make sure it is fulfilling its sentencing agreement.
Rotor Mechanical Services was fined $95,000 in September in connection with the deaths of Kyle Elliott and Mandi Balagot in July 2009.
The company pleaded guilty to three Occupational Health and Safety charges, including failing to ensure a Honda generator was installed and operated by the manufacturer's recommendations; failing to make all reasonable efforts to ensure the health and safety of its employee, Elliott; and failing as an employer to take reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of Balagot.
A lawyer appearing on behalf Rotor Mechanical told provincial court Monday said it would be willing to provide a status update on its charges Dec. 10.
In addition to a $95,000 fine, the company has been ordered to make a public presentation on a topic determined by the victims’ families.
A presentation is scheduled for November 14 at the Nova Scotia Community College and a status check will take place after that.
