TRURO - Where might you find Santa Claus, Cindy Lou Who, Baby Jesus, Scrooge and the Nutcracker all in one place?

At Truro's 2012 Santa Claus Parade, that's where.

Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, the parade will once again start at 6 p.m. and organizers at the Downtown Truro Partnership (DTP) office are looking forward to another colorful and exciting spectacle.

This year's theme is ‘Classic Christmas Characters,' which allows for numerous float possibilities.

"Entrants might consider such favorite options as elves, reindeer, Scrooge and Tiny Tim, Baby Jesus, the Wise Men, Frosty the Snowman, angels, Christmas carolers, and so many more," said Grace Murray, DTP's promotions and marketing co-ordinator, in a news release.

Murray noted the event, which is recognized as one of the largest and most colorful in the province, attracts a broad cross-section of the community, both in terms of participants and spectators.

"When you have schools, churches, businesses, service clubs and private individuals all participating, as well as the tremendous contribution of such groups as the police service, various fire services and Ground Search and Rescue, plus thousands of spectators who come from far and wide, you know it's something the whole community takes great pride in."

There is no entry fee but pre-registration is required. Registration packages are available from the Downtown Truro Partnership by email at grace@downtowntruro.ca or you may pick the information up at the office, located in the Marigold Cultural Centre on Prince St.

I have great memories of Truro's Santa Clause parade when I was a wee child growing up in Truro. We lived above my grandfather- Erskine Davison;s store on Prince Street and when it was too bitter to goutside we would all crowd around the window watching and drinking hot chocolate that our dear mom would made and lick candy canes. It was such a thrill to see all the people and floats and animals. My favorite was the Nativity with Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus usually riding a real donkey. In Ottawa (where I live now )the parade has gotten so commercialized that there are rarely animals and NO Nativity scenes at all- Just glitter and glitz. Nothing religiousl as they compensate for all the other faiths they say who don't beleive in Our Lord etc. I don't enjoy it anymore but still live with the memories that I had as a youth in Truro. Keep up the good work and Hope that lots of people participate to make some other child see the "Wonder of Christmas" as I did. Memories live on,. and always will in Truro Santa Claus parades!
