TRRUO – Where might you find Santa Claus, Cindy Lou Who, Baby Jesus, Scrooge and the Nutcracker all in one place?

At Truro’s 2012 Santa Claus Parade, that’s where.

Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, the parade will once again be an evening event and organizers at the Downtown Truro Partnership (DTP) office are looking forward to another colorful and exciting spectacle.

This year’s theme is ‘Classic Christmas Characters,’ which allows for numerous float possibilities.

“Entrants might consider such favorite options as elves, reindeer, Scrooge and Tiny Tim, Baby Jesus, the Wise Men, Frosty the Snowman, angels, Christmas carolers, and so many more,” said Grace Murray, DTP’s promotions and marketing co-ordinator, in a news release.

Murray noted the event, which is recognized as one of the largest and most colorful in the province, attracts a broad cross-section of the community, both in terms of participants and spectators.

“When you have schools, churches, businesses, service clubs and private individuals all participating, as well as the tremendous contribution of such groups as the police service, various fire services and Ground Search and Rescue, plus thousands of spectators who come from far and wide, you know it’s something the whole community takes great pride in.”

There is no entry fee but pre-registration is required. Registration packages are available from the Downtown Truro Partnership by email at grace@downtowntruro.ca or you may pick the information up at the office, located in the Marigold Cultural Centre on Prince St.

Now would be a great time to get those "No Parking on street after 5pm on November 24th or you will be towed" signs put up at various points along the parade route. Commercial street closed to all except those with valid handicapped parking permits on this evening would be a great idea. There is nothing worse than braving the weather with kids... standing for an hour or more to get "a good spot" only to end up seeing the parade through the windows of the cars that pull up and park in front of you. Let's do it right this year!
