Halifax police say humans remain found in Middle Sackville in June 2011 have been identified as those of a Halifax woman missing since 1997.

On June 9, 2011, a skull bone was found by surveyors in the woods near the 3300 block of Sackville Drive. According to a release issued Thursday by the RCMP, the remains are those of Crystal Dawn Jack.

The identification was made by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, the RCMP forensic crime lab and a forensic odontologist.

Jack was last seen at her home on Agricola Street in Halifax on July 15, 1997. She was reported missing to police eight days later. She was 30 years old at the time of her disappearance.

Her case was added to Nova Scotia’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes on Feb. 6, 2007.

Police believe Jack was murdered and say they are working to try and find out what happened to her.

“Police believe there are people in the community who have information about her disappearance and they are encouraged to come forward,” the RCMP release states.
