TATAMAGOUCHE - Neighbours Helping Neighbours is proceeding with its plan to open a food bank here and have launched a fundraising campaign.
A collection bin has been placed in the lobby of Mike's Foodland for people to drop off donations.
For the month of October, the grocery store will be holding a food drive, as well as a number of community involvement events to help create awareness for theorganization.
The events are as follows:
Saturday, Oct. 13 - Sticker scavenger hunt, a village-wide event for people of all ages. Participants are given clues and must find the location of stickers all around town. Individuals or two-person teams are invited. A registration fee of $5 will to go to the food bank. A barbecue will be on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds to the food bank as well
Saturday, Oct. 20 - Volunteer collection drive. Volunteers from Neighbours Helping Neighbours will be on hand at Foodland collecting donations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with additional support from Tri County Ford offering a new truck to hold donations.
Saturday, Oct. 27 - Showdown, it's Ford against Dodge as Foodland owner Mike Belliveau steps up to the challenge of staff a member. Time to be announced. Who will win this unique challenge?
Wednesday, Oct. 31 - Trick-or-Eat, volunteers will be trick-or-treating in the village for food bank donations. Open to all ages. Volunteers names will go into a draw for a pizza party valued at $40.
On top of all that, once again a local tradition will continue when The Halloween House, hosted by Jennifer and Leanne Roberts, opens its spooky doors to the public.
A voluntary donation of canned food for the food bank would be appreciated. It will be open on the night of Oct. 31.
