TRURO - Anyone with an interest in model trains should mark Saturday on their calendar.
The Truro Model Railroaders Association is hosting its 35th annual Truro Fall Train Show at the Nova Scotia Community College Truro campus gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
About 30 people will have their layouts on display for the public to admire, with some exhibitors setting up stations for the public to operate the trains.
"We'll have HO, N, ON30 and LEGO layouts there," said Barry Wile, president of the association and member for more than 30 years. "Those are the scales we will have on display.
"And the LEGO layouts will be at the perfect height for children." In addition to the train layouts, there will be a number of vendors, including some with second-hand items for sale, which has been popular with the crowds in the past.
"Last year, we had a little over 700 people all together - that's men, women and children," said Wile. "We don't set a goal for how many people we'd like to see, just that we always hope for a lot through the doors."
Those displaying trains on Saturday will arrive from throughout the province.
"We'll have people from Yarmouth, the Annapolis Valley, possibly Cape Breton and some come from New Brunswick," said Wile. "Some of our local (club) layouts come from Truro, Antigonish and Guysborough. We will also have members of an online modeller group, so they can be from anywhere in the province."
For Wile, the passion for trains runs deep. He has always had an interest in trains and worked on the railroads.
"I went out to put cars back on the track, and it's a lot easier when all you have to do is reach across the track and pick it up," he said with a laugh.
