TRURO - Two men will appear in Shelburne provincial court in January after being caught will illegal cigarettes outside Truro on Tuesday.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, members of the RCMP Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Colchester Street Crime Enforcement Unit and Service Nova Scotia Compliance and Special Investigations team, stopped a vehicle traveling west on Highway 104 outside Truro near Exit 13.
Inside the vehicle were approximately 693 cartons of illegal, unmarked cigarettes. The two men were arrested without incident.
Both the cigarettes and vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, were seized.
They are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 16, 2013, to face charges under the Excise and Revenue acts.
