The Amber Kirwan Memorial ceremony took place this morning on Samson Trail where the monument stands. The monument has an iron gate with a heart in the center, a photograph of Kirwan with "Amber Kirwan Pictou County's Angel" imprinted on the photo and an engraving in the monument that says "For all the women, men and children who have lost their lives to senseless tragedy."

Not sure what to say here but its been a year already and I am sure the family is moving on slowly but it is wonderful I think what everyone did by pulling together for support of the Kirwan family, friends, relatives and to all of us who followed along in support of there loss... I went to school with her dad Donnie, and we were great buds for 5 yrs.. and to this day I remember all of my school chums from a little town called Lismore...I hope to see Donnie and his family one more time but until then I have this to say..Donnie and family I cried the day she went missing, I cried even more the day they found her, I too have a daughter and can't imagine what you all went through. but from the looks of things you had wonderful support.. As hard as it seems God has a plan and my prayers go out to you all...In the past 4 years I have lost 5 family members and one to suicide he was close to Donnie's brother Scott..life is tough but be strong for one another and put your faith always forward, you will see.. Angels are among us.. Scott P

They have every right to be angry. PC people seem to think that Amber Kirwan is the spokes model for tragedy in PC. There are TONS of other people whose murders were just as tragic if not MORE tragic than Kirwans, some men and children. Where are their monuments or names? Why aren't they labeled 'Pictou County's Angels"? I'll tell you why. Because Kirwan was a pretty young female that's why and pretty young females gets the most exploited and the most news coverage. It's something to talk about and gossip about cause she's the "girl you see at Dooley's all the time". If it can "happen to her it can happen to you" type mentality. Heard it all before. Seen it all before. You've all exploited the poor girl for a year and now this monument is a permanent exploitation of her death while other who meet similar and worse tragedys there are ignored and shunned. Good going PC, truly.....pat yourselves on the back. *sarcasm*. The saddest part here is that most of you aren't even aware of it.

Private citizens came to together and put this monument in place, if you feel so strongly ANGRY, stop complaining and put in the work to have one made for Eddie, people did this for Amber, not to shun other crime victims. The didn't have to dedicate it to anyone but her, but they did. If they hadn't, Im sure you'd be even more angry that, you can't please everyone. Amber and Eddie, are not the only people to have lost their lives in this County. A child in my family was murdered, and no one created a monument for him and he was murdered long before Amber or Eddie, but I still feel this monument is a wonderful thing, and I think it's fantastic that it was dedicated to ALL! Just because you feel it's wrong, doesn't make it so, and it bothers me greatly that you would say" what did she do"? She didn't have TIME to do anything! Have some compassion!

well i think this is wrong why just ambers name on it "an engraving in the monument that says "For all the women, men and children who had lost their lives to senseless tragedy" if you go to a war Memorial it has all soldiers names on it why doesnt have eddy's name on it? why should amber's name be the only name on it i think its just wrong and really should be changed!!!!!!!!!!!!.If it's just going to be ambers name it it should be removed. What was it she did that she deserves this anyway?

Hard to believe that a year has passed...beautiful tribute!

i cannot believe that people are so upset over this monument..it's not about you.it's about Amber & her family & friends.where do you get of saying who should be on the monument..she well deserves it as she never had a chance to enjoy life like us..bet she'd change places with you any day. now go do something worth while to help make sure that there's not another young person put to rest by some killer.
