TRURO - A Truro developer is heading to Montreal to address delegates at the Heritage Canada Foundation National Summit.

Ron Meech, president of Meech Holdings Ltd., is to participate in a panel discussion on Innovative Community Revitalization Strategies.

The summit runs from Oct. 11 to 13.

Meech is known locally for the redevelopment of the former Willow Street School and St. Mary's Elementary School, as well as plans to redevelop lands where Alice Street School once stood.

His presentation will consist of information relating to some of the issues faced by developers when acquiring property and developing property.

"Just some of the challenges and hurdles you run into while developing," he said.

He will also talk about engineering issues and of trying to maintain the historical significance of properties while adhering to modern building codes.

Meech made the same presentation last spring in Halifax to the Nova Scotia Planning Directors Association and said he is looking forward to speaking in Montreal.

"It will be just interesting to go to this one, he said."

Meech will be joined on the panel by Ken Henderson, a former school teacher and current chairman of the Truro Heritage Advisory Committee. Other panel members include municipal and development officials from across Canada.
