TRURO - Oftentimes when someone appears before Colchester County Council to make a presentation, it is to discuss a concern or to extend a hand for cash.
When Ken Henderson of the Cobequid Planters 250 Society appeared before council last week, however, it was simply to offer thanks for municipal support and to hand back some cash.
"Thanks for taking a chance on us," he concluded in a audio/visual presentation to council that depicted various events undertaken by the society in 2010/11.
Throughout the past couple of years the society held a number of activities to celebrate the arrival of farmers from New England and Ireland who began new lives in Colchester County in 1761.
The group received $6,200 from the municipality to put towards its celebrations and on Thursday night, Henderson presented council with a refund cheque for $2,911.58.
The Town of Truro, which also contributed to the event, earlier received an equal refund.
Receiving such a return from unspent municipal funding was "really special," Mayor Bob Taylor told council.
