TRURO - A decision regarding a municipal funding request for Deuville's Rink in Salmon River will be reserved until it is determined what other financial sources are available.
Deuville's Rink is in need of more than $40,000 to complete capital renovations to bring the facility up to provincial fire codes and owner Ellery Deuville recently approached Colchester County seeking help with the funding.
Council deems the facility as an "asset" to the community but it is restricted from providing funding to private business or industry. It can, however, enter into a private partnership with Deuville for the purpose of providing service or capital funding for a facility that provides a municipal function, in this case, recreation.
The county currently provides funding for capital upgrades and for insurance to three other community rinks in Debert, Tatamagouche and Brookfield.
Deuville's Rink has recently received a $15,000 grant from a provincial heritage fund and it has applied for an additional $20,000 in funding through ACOA.
Council opted to wait until that application is processed before deciding how much it will contribute to the rink.
