Cape Breton Regional Police have arrested a 77-year-old female in connection to a suspected attempted murder.
The arrest comes as a result into the investigation of a well-being check on a 75-year-old New Glasgow male, who was admitted to the North Sydney General Hospital. Police were initially called to the hospital Sunday morning, September 30th, as a result of suspicion around the man’s illness. Further investigation led police to believe the man’s spouse matches the identity of a woman with a previous criminal history of fraud and manslaughter charges, and that she could be responsible for this man’s illness.
In consultation with the Crown Prosecutor, police obtained a warrant for the women’s arrest, and a search warrant for her residence in New Glasgow, where police arrested her at approximately 12:00 PM, without incident. Cape Breton Regional Police thank members of the New Glasgow Police Department and RCMP for their assistance.
Police are transporting the suspect back to Cape Breton; members of the Major Crime Unit continue to investigate and further details will be released as they become available.
