TRURO - A special ‘hunt' in Truro aims to raise poverty awareness as well as join the community for a fun event.

On Oct. 17, the National Day for the Elimination of Poverty, the Colchester Anti Poverty Network will host a "Poverty Hunt" from 4 to 6 p.m. Teams, which can be two or more people, will meet and begin the hunt at the Truro Farmers' Market on Young Street. Clues will be provided directing them to various locations in downtown Truro.

The community is invited to form a team for the event, which will be similar to the reality television show The Amazing Race.

Invitations are being sent to local municipal and provincial government leaders, non- profit organizations, business leaders, community groups, churches, education institutions and youth groups. People wishing to participate but who don't have a team can be matched with other individuals who would like to be part of a team.

For more information, or to register for the event, contact Angie MacIntyre at angie.macintyre@cehha.nshealth.ca or call her at 893-5886. The deadline for registration is Oct. 10.

NOFOOL...wouldn't that be inexcusable!? A government funding action against poverty! Imagine...but alas, not the case here. Quite likely, the contact person has a job that is connected to fighting poverty (the root of so many health issues and expenditures) and is part of the Network. That your fight has you scrutinizing this, renders your name only half correct.

Interesting and worthwhile cause however...is this government sponsored?? Why a taxpayer funded email contact?? Is this a taxpayer funded position? Are the taxpayers funding the Anti-poverty network?? Are these funds our health care dollars??

I hope it is funded by our health dollars. If we want to improve the health of Nova Scotians, focus needs to put on awareness and prevention. By raising awareness around poverty issues the CEHHA is directly tackling one determinant of health (poverty) and indirectly hitting up many many more (education, the physical environment, social supports and so on). Great job CEHHA! I know I'll be signing up!
