DARTMOUTH - Quarterback Gab Bagnell scored two touchdowns to lead the CEC Cougars to a 27-7 victory over the Prince Andrew Panthers in Nova Scotia High School Football League action here on Friday.
Thre win lifted the Cougars to 2-0 as they prepare to host the powerful Citadel Phoenix on Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m. The Panthers dropped to 0-3.
Kyle Scott, on a 64-yard reception, and Chandler Jennings, on a short-yardsage run, also scored TDs for the Cougars, who led 7-0 at halftime. Nic Zschielle booted three converts.
CEC coach Scott Annand praised the "outstanding" work of the Cougars defence, especially corner Andrew Murphy, and the performance of the special teams.
He said the offence committed some untimely turnovers in the first half but showed much better balance in the second hlf.
"Gab Bagnell showed great poise in the pocket," he said."And we showed an ability to stretch the field (via the passing game). That's encouraging because it will help our running game."
It was the Cougars first game in nearly two weeks with flooding in Truro having forced last week's contest to be postponed.
"The team hasn't really played a lot of football," said Annand. "They were ready to go last night."
