Annual Scarecrow Festival to include pumpkin carving contest

MAHONE BAY - Residents of Nova Scotia have a chance at showing off their carving skills with the 1st Annual Nova Scotia Pumpkin Carving and Decorating Contest.

The contest will be a special part of the 16th Annual Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival and Antique Fair from Sept. 28 to 30.

CBC's ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes' Cathy Jones will be the guest judge of the carving contest.

All pumpkins entered into the contest will become part of the traditional pumpkin walk on Friday and Saturday night.

There are three categories for submission - aged seven and under, eight to 13 and 14 to adult. A special category will include the ‘Largest Carved Pumpkin.'

The contest will feature a grand prize of $250.
