The woman, from San Francisco, California, was last seen at 2:30 Sunday afternoon when she left Dorje Denma Ling, a Shambhala International retreat centre, in the area.
Having not been from the area, she was unfamiliar with the area and several of the Buddist monks searched for her without success.
The Colchester Ground Search and Rescue was mobilized at 11:30 p.m. and a search was conducted.
At 8:20 Monday morning, the female walked out of the woods on the Balmoral Road.
She hunkered down for the night by a tree and walked out as first light. She didn’t appear to be suffering from any physical trauma as a result of spending the night in the woods.
Firefighters from the Tatamagouche volunteer department and members of the East Hants Ground Search and Rescue crew also assisted in the search.
