NEW CAMPBELLTON, N.S. — RCMP say a scuba diving excursion off Cape Breton turned tragic Sunday when one diver failed to surface.

The 56-year-old Baddeck man was among a group of 10 people diving Saturday near New Campbellton in Victoria County.

Police say the man was noticed missing when the other divers emerged from the water.

RCMP, coast guard and volunteer fire departments searched the area.

The man’s body was later discovered by a local fisherman near the New Campbellton Road shoreline.

His name has not been released.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.

Earlier this summer, the body of a 37-year-old Halifax-area man was found near the shoreline after scuba diving with a group in Mill Cove.
