TRURO - The second annual Give the Gift of Life Walk takes place this weekend.
The kidney foundation-based walk is scheduled for Saturday, rain or shine, beginning at 9 a.m.
The five-kilometre walk will begin at the corner of Walker and Prince streets by Sobeys and will continue down Queen, Elm and Robie streets to the Kiwanis Pond, then to Prince Street and return to the starting point.
About $10,000 was raised from the initiative last year and the goal is to top that total this weekend. An estimated 60 people participated in the walk in 2011 and organizers hope to see even more people get involved this time.
An undisclosed percentage of the fundraiser will stay in the community to assist people dealing with kidney disease; the remainder goes to research. To more information, call 893-8056.
