TRURO – The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre will officially open its doors for membership use on Jan. 2, 2013.
As a prelude to the official opening, it is anticipated that the centre will be available for viewing and limited use by the community in December. An exact date to be confirmed.
“The decision to wait until January to open is a combination of a number of factors including construction timelines and operational considerations,” said Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre operations board chair Nevin Jackson in a news release. “We are very appreciative of the community’s patience as we prepare for opening day and are confident that it will be worth the wait.”
Information on membership pricing and offerings will be available to the community by the end of September. “Our team is working through all of the logistics to ensure the centre meets the needs and expectations of the community,” said civic centre genera manager Jim Lambert. “Consultation with various community members has provided a strong direction for membership pricing and structure.
Construction of the civic centre began in September, 2010. The facility includes a 2,500-seat event arena, NHL-sized ice surface, walking/jogging track, aquatic centre (eight-lane competitive pool and therapeutic leisure pool), fitness centre, multi-purpose/community meeting space and a rock climbing wall.
I am sure if you check the ice size of brookfield or debert you will find they are smaller than the civic center or the stadium.
