TRURO - A Truro town councillor wants to know how clean the air is in downtown Truro.

During a monthly town council meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Coun. Sharron Byers raised the issue of air quality in and around John Ross and Sons, which is located on Cummane Street in the east end of town. Byers has been interested in learning about the quality of air in the area for a while and suggested asking the Department of Environment for an air assessment report.

Council clarified the report should be done during hours of operation at John Ross.

Coun. Greg MacArthur said something should be done with the report once it becomes available.

"I hope they are accountable. We've had reports done on things year after year and nothing is done," he said.

Council agreed to request the air quality test.

What's embarrassing is the actions and statements being made by Town of Truro in regards to this long-standing, honest business. Not many people -- judging by the comments -- think the town has any right to force this business out. Instead of taking proactive steps and working with the business, all Truro council does is complain and harass this business. In November 2011 Justice Ted Scanlan of Nova Scotia Supreme Court said there was enough information to show that at least one member of town council has made it a mission to have John Ross closed or moved from its present location AND the public treasury of the town (that being OUR town, Truro) is being used to finance land acquisitions and lawsuits aimed solely at shutting down a legitimate business operation. Public funds are being wasted on this ongoing vendetta to shut down a legitimate, legal, business. Shame on Truro!

My god all the below comments below except "Sally" are all twisted.. Open your GD eyes. Look at the place. It looks like s*#t. Why you'd be protecting a place like that nesseled right in town is way beyond me. It's a great business but it DOES NOT belong where it sits. And to Wayne.. Why would there be a problem with standfields and the carpet factory? They are not huge piles of crap right in the middle of town. Not to mention outside visitors on VIA rail are prob fighting to get a picture of that beautiful sight as they pass by. WOW most people in this town have their heads on backwards. GET IT OUT OF THERE!!!!! It's embarrassing as a Truro resident!!

And so the vendetta continues and the entire council supporting it..........this is an election year is it not.......definitely time for a change as this harassment is getting really tiresome and to the point of being embarrassing . Are there no other issues to address ??

Just arrived home from an across Canada trip via rail and the first thing I read is where Sharon is at it again. This time by trying the air quality. Shaeon, get a life. If anything the town has that the air quality is bad is their sewer system. Oh, i forgot, it's in Lower Truro so she won't have to smell it. As we were passing through towns and cities I made a point of checking for scrap yards and yes we did see them. Truro's looked to be much better managed and tidy than others across canada. As well, the surrounding areas of some of those towns and cities looked to be almost like garbage dumps. They could have certainly cleaned up around the rail properties without much trouble, if they had so wanted to. Actually when you come back to Truro you are (I am) quite proud to be from this Town.

The harrrassment continues....i surely hope John Ross's will take the advice given to them by a judge and sue this town for harrassment. Maybe money spent harrassing this business could be spent policing the open drug use on the skid row that Inglis Place has become during business hours.

Kinda reminds me of people who by a house beside a farm and complain it smells..... Here's an idea. You don't like a scrapyard in your neighnbourhood then don't buy the house

Why don't you stop harassing this man and do something usefull are you going to test the air quality around the feed mill? Processing plant? Stanfields? Carpet factory or any other factories in Truro. The home owners complaining must have seen the scrapyard when they bought their homes didn't they?

Stop wasting money on dumb reports. They know as well as you do that they have out grown that current location... many years ago. The Town of Truro knows what they have to do to get them out of there, find a proper spot and pay for them to move. With all the money that has been spent over the years on reports you probably could have moved them by now. But it's easier to sit and complain and spend money on this report and that report and be no closer to the end result, just deeper in debt.

Q :Why do we not hear of this lady talking about anything else? A: This is the only reason she run for council. Time for someone else to take her place. This company creates jobs for Truro , so grab your 3 people that want this moved and please go away. Better yet lets spend millions to tear it down and another million to rebuild it. Typical small town, small minded people. Check the air quality in your head cause there is not much getting there.
