TRURO - The Battle of Britain marks its 72nd anniversary this year and local cadets and veterans will lead a ceremony in its honour.

Members from the AFAC 102 Wing, along with members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, will march to the cenotaph on Prince Street on Sept. 16.

The service will begin at 12:50 p.m.

The Battle of Britain was one of the major campaigns of World War II fought between 1940 and 1941 by the RAF and Allied Air forces.

Wreaths will be laid by members of the 102 Wing and local dignitaries in memory of lost members of the Air Force and the Canadian Armed forces. A fly pass will take place during the ceremony.

A reception will be held at the 102 Wing at 22 Cottage St. Truro, after the service.

102 Colchester Wing has more than 400 members and sponsors the local Air Cadet Squadron 77 Arrowhead. It also continues to support numerous charitable organizations in the community.

For more information call Gary MacNaughton, president 102 Wing, at 897-9421 or 893-9326.
