TRURO - An effort is underway by the Municipality of Colchester to have the name of Old Highway 102 changed back to its former status of Commo Road.
The road is located in Stewiacke and Mayor Bob Taylor and Coun. Bill Masters recently distributed a petition to property owners in the area in an effort to solicit support for the name change.
Support is required from two-thirds of the property owners in a given area and they were able to acquire the signatures of seven of 10 residents and business owners along the road.
Two property owners were not available at the time while the third, a business owner, was against the change because his business cards and other official information had recently been changed to reflect the name of the current road.
Council committee recently approved a motion to send the petition to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal for approval.
After travelling along the road, however, Masters said he was disturbed by its condition.
"That road is worse than Meadow Drive (in Lower Truro)," he said. "I don't know how our department of transportation can allow things to deteriorate to that state."
