TRURO - A new beginner band is starting in the Truro area next month.
The 7th Wave of the Cobequid New Horizons Band program will commence with an instrument demonstration and experimentation session at the Truro Concert Band Room in the Old Normal College on Sept. 13. The session begins at 4:30 p.m.
The band program is open to those people aged 50 or older that may have wanted to try a musical instrument, or may have played in ‘earlier years' and want to take it up again.
The instruments to be taught include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium (baritone), tuba, drums and percussion, violin, cello, piano, guitar and electric or acoustic bass.
Retired music teacher and professional musician Paul Barrett directs the class.
He spent many years teaching in the public school system in Truro. He is an arranger and composer of the piano and trombone.
