Annabel Fitzgerald, left, and Miles Carreau were early leaders in the 5-6 age range of the Splash and Dash held Saturday at Victoria Park in Truro.
Organized by Troy Bond, with gotruro.ca, the event was to introduce multi-sport competition to children, especially those of a younger age.
From as young as five, participants had to swim a certain length in the pool (dependent on age category) before throwing on their sneakers and hitting the running trails.
Eight-year-old Madeline Stewart said the event was a fun one.
"It’s a lot of work to do this event but kids should really do it. It gets you going and it makes you want to do it," she said, following her first place finish in her heat.
Bond was hoping to have results of the inaugural event available on gotruro.ca.
