BIBLE HILL - Seatbelt and car seats will be the focus of numerous checkpoints throughout the county this month.
August is seatbelt and child safety seat compliance month and RCMP Northern Traffic Services will be checking with motorists throughout both Colchester and Hants counties.
When it comes to seatbelts, officers will be enforcing proper usage, as they will be regarding child safety seats.
Child restraints are designed for children of specific sizes and using an incorrect unit puts the child at risk. It's important that children are sitting in car seats that are age and weight appropriate, and that seats are installed correctly.

Fred, scraping the remains of a body off of the asphalt after it's gone through a windshield and slid across the pavement is enough to give the most hardened officer PTSD. Even one life saved by so simple a thing as a seatbelt is worth it. It appears you see this as an inconvenience -- imagine the inconvenience to the EMS, firefighters, doctors, nurses, police . . . oh, and the family . . . that have to deal with the consequences of preventable death and injury. If you don't care about your own life and safety, at least consider the "inconvenience" you might cause others.
