TATAMAGOUCHE - Tatamagouche and area residents are bracing themselves to face some terrifying moments this weekend.

Legendary actor and stuntman Kane Hodder, who played Jason Voorhees in four of the Friday the 13th films (parts 7,8,9,10), is the special guest at the second annual Summer Fear in Tatamagouche. The event is Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Tatamagouche Grain Elevator on Creamery Road.

Hodder, 57, spoke with the Truro Daily News from his home in California on Tuesday, saying he was impressed with Summer Fear based on what another horror movie legend told him.

"I heard good things about the place from Gunnar" Hansen, who played Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, said Hodder. Hansen was the main attraction at last year's Summer Fear event.

Hodder said he's thrilled to share his experience as Jason.

"It was a real release of pent-up tension to play him. He was treated unfairly as a boy so that's why he retaliated ... that's how I played him."

Summer Fear will also include autograph signing, question and answer time, special effects demonstrations, haunted house, short films and special guests including Michael MacDonald (The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger), Nick Bradshaw (comic book artist who illustrated a mini series based on the cult movie 'Army of Darkness') and Truro Bible Hill MLA Lenore Zann (who has appeared in early 80s horror films).

Richard Duggan, owner of the Tatamagouche Grain Elevator, said it's exciting to welcome Hodder to the area.

"I watched all the Friday the 13th movies growing up and everyone loves Jason. And Kane Hodder is the best Jason," Duggan said. "I don't know of any other event like this in Nova Scotia so it's pretty special for horror fans."

Tickets for Summer Fear are $15 at the door.

great event! Richard and his staff of volunteers and friends put on a fun fear-filled afternoon. Lots of crazy films, horror movie fans and neat stuff. Seemed to me that attendance at least tripled from last year. Kane Hodder signed many photos, posed for pictures, and never took a break. Really gave the fans a good time. Well done to the folks at Tatamagouche's Summer Fear Fest!

I think that the hours it runs a little odd.
