TRURO - A 21-year-old reported missing last week hasn't shared information with police on where she was for two days.

Truro Police Service Insp. Rob Hearn confirmed there was nothing new and no further criminal investigation into the disappearance of Kashmala Fida.

Fida was reported missing Tuesday night after her parents hadn't heard from her since that morning.

They said it was out of character for their daughter, whose vehicle she was driving was found in the parking lot at the Colchester Regional Hospital that same day.

Fida was found at about suppertime Thursday when officers responded to a call at a residence in Lower Truro.

She was found to be in good health, according to a police report.

I understand the concern of Mr and Mrs Fida regarding their daughter's disappearance. In lieu of all the terrible crimes that are being committed these days, it is totally understandable that they would be worried out of their minds when their daughter seemed to disappear from the face of the earth. I absolutely understand their need to involve the police. What I fail to understand is why Ms Fida doesn't 'step up to the plate' now and give the police an explanation regarding her 'non-appearance'. She does owe that, given the valuable police time she has been granted. If Ms Fida suffers from a mental illness that impedes her memory, medical diagnosis should be the next step. Society helps those in need; on the other hand, if games are being played, taxpayers should not be footing the bill.

All this negativity makes me wonder if everyone would prefer it if the girl had been found dead or hurt or something.

Hardly, its simply a matter of the public wanting people to be accountable for their actions, especially if those actions result in wasting police resources and tax payer money.

NOYB where she was. She was missing for 2 days, her parents were naturally worried sick and called police. Police did their job that we the taxpayers pay them to do in such cases. It's NOYB where she was... People in todays world think they have the right to know everyones business. I'm happy she's safe.

All of you coming to her defense and saying "we don't know the whole story" blah blah. Keep in mind the time and effort the police spent looking for this brat. Now stop and think, what if you required assistance from the police for something important, only to find out their resources were being spent looking for this 'missing' girl, I can bet that your tune would change in a hurry. In my opinion, cases like this where it's found to be a case of someone pulling a stunt like this, then refusing to come clean to the police, should be presented with the bill for the time the police wasted on this case. I realize accountability is a dirty word these days, but when's the line going to be drawn on this foolishness?

From the TDN Conditions of Use: "We ask that users remain courteous. You may not post insulting, discriminatory or inappropriate content..." Your comment is not courteous, it is insulting, and in my opinion is inappropriate. Maybe this young woman should have made a phone call or two, or maybe there is more to this story then we know. The people who are defending her are doing so because we don't know what happened, and want to keep an open mind instead of jumping to name calling and finger pointing. Also, I'm sure the police are capable of handling more than one case at a time.

GB, I couldn't agree more. I don't think it is unreasonable for the her to be accountable for her actions, or disclose the actions taken upon her. I don't think anyone wants, needs or deserves full public disclosure of what happened, but she should at least have to account to police such that they can make a statement that this was not an abduction or a criminal matter that the public has to worry about our daughter's falling victim to. Case closed.. No one needs to know the details, but once it entered the public spectrum when she was reported missing, we need to have some reasoning why. We do not want to live in the fear that someone is snatching young women against their will and dumping them a couple days later... The lack of cooperation shown by her to those who worked tirelessly to try to find her is worrisome and disrespectful IMHO.

I find the reflexive lack of compassion and trust among the commenters to be disturbing. Why is everyone making negative presumptions about the young woman's character and motives? Why has no one assumed that she may be scared to tell people what happened? This "she just wanted to run away from home to show her parents" argument is childish and unfounded. The woman in this article is an adult, not a preteen.

She not have any memory of where she was for two days. Ever hear of Split Personality? It is debatable among some psychiatrists that it exists. But it does. Stress, trauma, abuse etc. can trigger the mind to split and another personality takes over with one not being aware of the other. Just an observation from the published info. Or it could be like the story of the little boy who cried wolf. In the end, the wolf ate him.

Hey people. She didn't ask for anybody to look for her. Why should she have to pay for the costs incurred?? Give your heads a shake

That's the funny thing about people who actually go missing - they usually CAN'T ask for people to search for them. What an odd argument to make. I think your head's been shaken a bit too much.

To Cashisking...so by your logic we should "wait" until someone asked to be looked for?!? How are the Amber Kirwan's of the world to "ASK" to be looked for buddy? Really?!? This girl's family called and reported her missing..(ASKING for the police to look for her...) I mean really? In this day and age with cell phones and text, how friggin hard is it to contact someone? My phone rings 50-60 times a day!! She was gone for two days and missed appts. I'd call her in missing too!

I agree 100% with Ann Marie, stop being so judgmental! We have no idea what happened, and it is not our place to go throwing around accusations and insults. Instead of being glad another tragedy hasn't happened, you start complaining about "wasted" time and money.

Funny all the publicity with videos on what a great citizen this young woman was, in reality it is more likely another kid attempting to punish her parents and for what for? "being strict, caring about where she was and who she was hangling out with. SHAME ON YOU YOUNG LADY!!!!!!!

It's become so easy for us, as humans, to judge without knowing all the facts - to make assumptions without knowing all the details. It is quite possible that something traumatic happened to this young person, but we do not know, do we. So, instead of being so callous, judgmental and self-righteous, perhaps we should be thankful that she has been found, and hopefully, in good physical, mental and emotional health.

Really? The article stated she was found unharmed and healthy, so I disagree with "something traumatic may have happened". This more than likely is a case of "I'll show them" after a disagreement with her parents. If she was with someone the time all she needs to say is "I was with a friend" and leave it at that. Her refusal to disclose where she was is enough to suspect that she was never in any danger, and she should be made to pay back searching costs, ESPECIALLY if she knew they were looking for her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if its something serious then the public needs to know if its private we should know also just so we know its nothing that people have to worry about what if she was taken against her will shouldnt we know so as too know that there may be someone out there can do it again ,,,if its nothing then dont leave your car at the hospital disappear and not let anyone know especially your parents of course their going to get the police involved if she has never done this before just saying

I can't help but feel that those who do not cooperate with police should be required to cover the costs that were incurred.

exactly. you have touched on something i feel pretty strongly about. especially in criminal investigations where they will not co-operate. such people who get shot/stabbed/assaulted are taken to the hospital on our tax payer dime. they should be held accountable for the expense of the police/amulance/hospital.

If this turns out to be a case of "calling wolf", it may affect timely searches in the future. We can understand her wanting privacy, and have given her benefit of the doubt, but for both her and her parents to ignore the efforts of the searchers involved would be rude - period.
