TRURO - A $500,000 investment from the provincial government will see a new wing and other additions made to the École acadienne de Truro.
The province is working with the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial to upgrade and renovate École acadienne de Truro, a first-language school for students from grades Primary to 12.
"We are very happy with this news," said Marie Moore, chairwoman of the school advisory committee. "It will benefit all our students here in Truro. I am confident that this will help us retain our students until Grade 12, which has been one of our goals over the years."
The funding is to help build the school's new wing, which includes classrooms, a science lab and a music room. The province invested $1.3 million in the project as part of its 2012-13 capital plan. The project is expected to be completed during the 2013-14 school year.
École acadienne de Truro has and enrolment of about 200 students but that is expected to grow next year.
"By working with our partners, we will ensure that École acadienne de Truro meets the needs of students and the community for many years to come, Truro Bible Hill MLA Lenore Zann said, in making the announcement. "It is a very exciting announcement for our community."
