TRURO - A former teacher's assistant charged with sexual offences now has another criminal charge against him.

Todd Canton, 53, of Truro, was arraigned on a charge of failing to comply with his undertaking condition that prohibits him from going to any parks, swimming areas, daycares, schools, playgrounds or community areas where children under the age of 16 are or can be reasonably expected to be. The condition also prohibits him from being within 100 metres of any such place.

While Canton, who is also charged with luring a child over the Internet and invitation to sexual touching, didn't appear in court, his lawyer did.

Amber Snow requested an adjournment for plea on the sexual charges and to review the new charge with her client.

The sexual charges are alleged to have occurred on Dec. 29, 2011, while the breach charge has a date of May 23.

Canton was a teacher's assistant at Truro Junior High School before his arrest at the end of January and had been dismissed by the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board on Jan. 10.

He's scheduled to appear in Truro provincial court at 9:30 a.m. on July 9 on all charges.
