TATAMAGOUCHE - Tatamagouche native Mike Gregory has announced to the Truro Daily News his intention to run for Colchester County Council during this fall's municipal election. Here is some essential info:

Who: Mike Gregory

Lives in: Tatamagouche

Age: 62

Running for: District 7, Municipality of Colchester County

Family: Married to Barbara and has three adult sons.

Occupation: Retired, formerly compliance officer for 12 years and officer with RCMP for 13 years.

Hobbies: Skiing (downhill and cross-country), curling, snowshoeing, gardening and music.

Major issue he sees in district: "The priority is still policing and I want to make sure we still have a police presence in this community."

Major issue he sees in the county: "Fracking is a big concern. I know there are two sides to every story. There is so much material out there but do we really want people out there pumping millions of liters of chemicals into the ground polluting out water?"

Why he believes he is a good candidate: "I'm running because I live in this community, I love this community and I care. I feel I still have something I can give back and help people in this community."

Political experience: He has served as chairman of the Tatamagouche Village Commission for the past years and was a commissioner prior to that.

Congratulations to Mike Gregory for running for council; he will do a great job for our area. I believe there is an error under occupation; I believe he was compliane officer with the Gaming Commission of Nova Scotia, after he retired as a RCMP Officer for 26 years, with a lot of that time as Detachment Commander in Tatamagouche.
