TRURO - Truro native Danny Joseph has announced to the Truro Daily News his intention to run for Truro town council during this fall's municipal election. The following is an introductory bio of Joseph.
Who: Danny Joseph
Lives in: Lifelong Truro resident
Age: 63
Running for: Ward 3 councillor
Family: He's single; his 30-year-old son lives in Moncton; and he has a two-year-old granddaughter
Hobbies: Sports, reading and writing
Major issue he sees in Ward 3: "My ward has some systematic problems with drugs and crime. It makes a difference by bringing the issue to the town for awareness."
Major issue he sees in the town: "This town can be more vibrant than it is. Sometimes there's a Victorian mindset ... I'd like to see Inglis Place a pedestrian area only, a plethora of outdoor cafes and downtown jazz events."
Why he believes he's a good candidate: "I am passionate about the place. I have a lifelong love affair with the (east end) of town and I want to put a positive spin to a great many problems."
Council experience: None. Joseph was on the parks and recreation committee for four years in mid-2000 and he's the new chairman of the Truro Sport Heritage Society.
