TRURO - Colchester County MLAs Gary Burrill and Lenore Zann are supporting Brian Topp in the national NDP leadership contest, the MLAs announced on Tuesday.
"Brian Topp has placed the problem of income inequality squarely at the centre of his leadership campaign," said Zann, MLA for Truro-Bible Hill, in a news release. "I very much support his view that promoting equality for all people is the mission and purpose of the New Democratic Party."
Added Burrill, MLA for Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley: "When we consider that the bottom 50 per cent of income earners in Canada has not seen a significant increase in their living in over 30 years, while the income share of the richest one per cent in the country doubled between 1982 and 2007, we know that something is very wrong with our present direction as a country.
"I wholeheartedly endorse Brian Topp's vision for righting this terrible imbalance."
Topp is the former president of the New Democratic Party of Canada and is one of seven candidates vying for the national leadership of the NDP.
The national leadership convention will be held March 23-24 in Toronto.
