TRURO - Colchester Ground Search and Rescue is appealing to the Town of Truro for financial help.
Doug Benedict, spokesman for the volunteer organization, addressed town council on Monday. He spoke about the organization and its need to update and maintain a number of pieces of equipment, which is very costly. The organization requested $7,500 from the town to help with capital equipment.
"We believe this is an important (organization) and are hopeful citizens will help," said Benedict.
He added the Municipality of Colchester County has given the organization about $22,000 and Benedict will make presentations to Millbrook and Stewiacke, seeking funding from those communities as well for the regional organization.
Truro Mayor Bill Mills said the request will go to budget deliberations, a process that will begin next month. The town's budget will be passed in April.
Councillors also recommended the organization could seek help, including with resources, from existing services, including regional emergency measures.
