TRURO - Five sunny days brought about 1,000 more people to this year's Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition.

Jeff Yuill, exhibition committee chairman, said organizers were pleased with the increase.

"We had five stellar days and I hate to say it, some days it was almost too hot, but nobody complained because we really hadn't had any summer," said Yuill.

About 38,920 people attended this year's Ex, compared to 38,000 last year.

"Thursday was our biggest day," Yuill said. "Harness racing was brought back and other big events in the day contributed to that."

While Thursday's numbers were the highest, Yuill said Saturday came a close second.

"Saturday was a good day for us. Sometimes it trails off because it's the last day, kids have been here two or three times during the week and people are heading to the cottage. The parade was on Saturday this year and I think it bolstered up our attendance."

Yuill said the management team tracks the revenue from the midway, from the rides, games and concessions, as well and noticed the midway had a good array of rides.

"We did notice there were a lot more families that attended this year," said Yuill, adding that both agriculture and families were the theme of the event.

"We tried to build the days around families and there were a lot of kids on hand, or grandparents with their grandchildren."

In the past, Yuill said Saturdays may have been bigger days for the event, however, it is a weather-based event.
