LOWER ONSLOW - Brandi's Miracle has gone to kitty Heaven.
After surviving 10 days, following the death of its pregnant mother - which was killed after being struck by a vehicle - the tiny kitten whose birth was initially deemed akin to a miracle, passed away last Friday.
"We would've liked it if he had lived because he would have been a miracle kitten, owner Lenore Kenney said, on Wednesday, because of the way the kitten was born.
"We did our best, we got him a nice, warm formula, we kept him in a nice, warm bed and we saw to him like a new-born infant," she said.
Mama cat Brandi was close to giving birth to her kittens when she was struck by a vehicle and killed. Shortly after, Kenney's fiancé, George, discovered Brandi on the road and ultimately brought it inside where he performed a caesarean section to remove the unborn kittens from the dead mother's belly.
When signs of life were detected in one of the newborns, George proceeded to provide mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until it began breathing on its own.
But Kenney now believes the kitten's birth was simply too premature for it to survive.
"So, maybe he needed another week (in the womb)," she said.
The kitten, named Brandi's Miracle in memory of its mother, is now been buried in Kenney's backyard along with the others.
