TRURO - A popular Halifax pub is coming to the Hub.

"We are opening a Split Crow in Truro," owner Damian Byrne told the Truro Daily News this week. "The plan at this point would be to open in early September."

The new restaurant and bar will be located at 515 Prince St. in the former Calico's Lounge location in downtown Truro. The capacity of the facility is 147.

"The basement of the current Split Crow looks identical to this place. It's absolutely amazing. Rustic old beams, rock walls, gorgeous spot," Byrne said.

"We'll be doing all the same things that the Split Crow does in Halifax, same menu, same entertainment, hopefully with a little more local content."

Truro will be the first location outside of the pub's downtown Halifax location. Byrne said being only an hour away makes it easier to manage compared to setting up shop in other locations. But, he said, if things go well, the company might look at expanding to other markets, including outside the province.

"Truro is a great market to test things in," he said. "It's probably the biggest small city there is. It's got everything."

Byrne said it is already receiving emails from customers looking forward to visiting the new site and seeing some of the musicians in their hometown.

The Halifax location currently employs between 40 and 45 and Byrne said it could employ about half as many in Truro, based on its projected sales levels.

The Split Crow describes itself as offering Maritime-themed hospitality.
