TRURO - Good luck to those coming to town for this weekend's full lineup of activities if you don't already have accommodations.
That's the word from local innkeepers who say things are pretty much booked up given that both the Dutch Mason Blues Festival and the Motorcycle Weekend event are taking place from Friday through to Sunday.
"It has been crazy, yes," said Ruth Mailloux of Sun Catcher Bed and Breakfast in North River, regarding the quest for rooms. "I'd say as far as bed and breakfasts go, everybody's full ... I've had a cancellation and I'm probably the only bed and breakfast with a room."
D´arcy McDonah of Belgravia Bed & Breakfast in Truro said his rooms have long been spoken for during Dutch Fest.
"We're full, he said. "We've been booked since, I'd say, April. It's tough to get a room for that weekend."
Likewise at the Best Western Glengarry.
"We've got a couple of rooms on Friday night and we've got absolutely nothing for Saturday night," desk clerk Janet Robbin said. "But we've been filled up pretty much since last year because all the ones that came last year came back and they've rebooked in. Yeah, it's going to be a busy, busy weekend."
And that's just what area retailers like to see, said Tim Tucker, executive director of the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce.
"It's definitely a help for local businesses," he said. "It's definitely one of those things we needed here."
In addition to the blues festival, this is also the inaugural Motorcycle Weekend, which is expected to add the numbers of outsiders coming to town.
"So we are hoping to see lost of bikes this weekend," said Kathy Fisher from the Central Nova Tourist Association information centre.
"We are experiencing more traffic overall."
