BIBLE HILL - At least 35 unlocked vehicles in Truro, Bible Hill and surrounding areas have been hit overnight in the past 30 days, police say.
And those are just the reported incidents said RCMP Sgt. Al Affleck, of people who are continuing to leave valuables in their unlocked vehicles overnight.
"We're getting about three, four and five every night, all over everywhere," he said, naming off such streets and areas as Valley, Pictou Road, Andy's Avenue, Bomber Drive, Little Dyke, Belmont, Tie Street, Englewood Ct., Robie Street, Bob Lee Drive, Butler Drive and more.
"There's somebody, anybody and everybody, rummaging through unlocked cars," Affleck said, adding he can't "stress enough" for people to lock their vehicles before turning in for the night.
"People are leaving their cars unlocked with purses and wallets in them and calling and saying my wallet was taken from my car, my credit cards are gone, just ridiculous stuff ..."
"So we're really asking the general public to be really diligent and lock their vehicles because these are thefts of opportunity. They're not smashing windows or breaking into cars, they're just taking from unlocked vehicles and grabbing whatever loose change and trinkets they can get their hands on."
