TRURO - Anything and everything blue.

That is the premise behind the Paint the Town Blue campaign, a contest designed to help promote next month's sixth annual Dutch Mason Blues Festival.

"This is mainly a community contest," said Alex Gibson, the festival's volunteer co-ordinator. "We're trying to get local businesses to come on board to help us promote the festival."

The contest entails having local businesses decorate their storefronts or windows with a blues-festival theme.

About 20 businesses have signed on so far but Gibson says they are still looking for more.

"We actually want to paint the town blue with everything," he said.

Participating businesses will receive posters and rack cards to display.

All stores are to be judged on theme presentation, creativity and overall appeal, with judging to take place Aug. 9. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided based on the amount of blue on display.

The winning business will receive two weekend passes to the festival, which runs Aug. 13 to 15.

This contest is an opportunity for all businesses to show their support and honor the best Blues artists of all times for choosing our town. Natalie Camm Murphy Fish@Chips Truro

Painting the town blue for the Blues Fest and the Wild Blueberry Festival sounds great ...just hope no one reads any political significance into it!
