BIBLE HILL - Bluegrass at its finest.
That's the word from Charles MacKenzie regarding this weekend's lineup for the 39th annual Nova Scotia Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Festival.
"It's a top-notch lineup, there's no weak spots at all," the festival vice-president said. "I'd say this is among the top lineups that we've had."
This is the second year for the bluegrass festival at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition grounds and MacKenzie said eager show-goers began arriving as early as Monday.
"We're expecting a fairly good crowd," he said, adding it is hoped the crowds can surpass the approximately 1,000 people who attended last year.
"We just think we have a jam-packed weekend for them," he said. "I expect by Wednesday night they'll be jamming in the fields."
This year's lineup includes such Nova Scotia acts as New Ground, the Spinney Brothers, Bluegrass Tradition and the Mark Boutlier Bluegrass Band.
The Bluegrass Diamonds and the Fiddling Landry's from New Brunswick are also to perform along with Janet McGarry & Wildwood from P.E.I.
Also slated for the stage is Special Consensus from the United States.
Songwriter and performer's workshops and a songwriters circle are also planned, as well as a special, short children's program, called Our Bluegrass Children on Saturday afternoon.
Admission to the event is $40 for advance weekend tickets, or $45 at the gate.
Thursday tickets are $5; Friday - $15, Saturday's fee is $20 (after 5 p.m. - $15). Sunday admission is $10. Throughout the weekend, children under age 14 are free when accompanied by their parents.
