TRURO - Further cuts have been made to try to reduce the costs of renovating Colchester Legion Stadium under this year's budget.

The stadium facility renovation committee met Wednesday to discuss the situation.

"We've gone over every part of the project that was in the original request for proposal," Mayor Bill Mills said. "We've cut even further and looked at the things that were absolutely necessary to do."

Tenders for the work came back $500,000 more than the town's $1.5-million budget. The only bidder, along with the town's consultant and town staff, provided input to reduce the cost and get the project on budget.

The consultant will now take the committee's input to the company before the committee's next meeting on Wednesday.

Mills said things like adding an elevator, improvements to the washrooms and interior roofing are proposed.

"We're not going to put ourselves in a debt position unnecessarily," he said.

"We're going to chip away at it."

Yeah...hard to find spare change for minivan repairs when you've budgeted $4 million for a Mazarati.
