TRURO - Anyone entering a liquor store with sticky fingers might as well wear a smile because the chances are, you will have your picture taken.

Truro resident Glen Allan Joyce, who pleaded guilty in provincial court to stealing a bottle of rum, learned that lesson the hard way when informed that his every move had been videotaped – by no less than 17 individual cameras.

“The bottom line, Mr. Joyce, is that every liquor store in the province has cameras installed,” said Judge Del Atwood. “Anyone who steals from the liquor store is going to caught on candid camera.”

Joyce’s defence lawyer said his client had been consuming alcohol prior to the incident and did not actually recall the theft. He was convinced of his actions, however, by the video trail he left behind.

“The facts speak for themselves, your honour,” Joyce said, when asked if he had anything to say.

Joyce, 46, of 3836, Highway 236 Lower Truro, was handed a suspended sentence and placed on nine month’s probation. He was also ordered to be assessed for alcohol counseling and is banned from entering any NSLC outlet or agency during his probation period.

And Joyce must also make restitution to the NSLC for the $14.99 bottle of rum.
