TRURO – A Truro developer says he finds it harder for his projects to be approved compared to those coming from outside the town.
“I am a community person and it’s frustrating some times. It seems to be an uphill battle continually,” Ron Wallace said.
His comments came during discussion about his proposal to build two new apartment buildings on Park Street, which the town later approved.
Wallace said his business has been going for 35 years and now employs 20 full-time people. Ron Wallace Realty Limited puts between $2 and $4 million into the local economy each year.
“We take pride in our buildings,” Wallace said.
He added it seemed to have become more of a struggle to get approval compared to outside developers. “They come in here, they bring outside contractors in, they build the buildings and then they leave and the money that the tenants pay them goes outside the town,” Wallace said.
“We have pride in our community and I feel that sometimes we get kicked in the pants.”
Coun. Greg MacArthur said Wallace has a proven track record, a sentiment others agreed with,
but some councillors said they
had concerns with his current proposal regarding traffic and flooding concerns.
