TRURO - Susan MacQuarrie is one of the candidates vying for the Truro seat on the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board during this month's municipal election. The following is MacQuarrie's bio.
Name: Susan MacQuarrie
Age: 48
Truro resident since: Grew up in Maitland and has spent most of her life in Truro.
Running for: Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB)'s Truro seat.
Family: Husband Rod, son Connor, daughter Chloe
Occupation: Investment advisor
Hobbies: Gardening, travel, singing, entertaining and volunteering.
Experience: Involved in the education system for the past 17 years, including chairwoman of Willow Street Elementary School's breakfast. Other involvement includes organizing health promoting school projects, on the playground fundraising committee, past member of the school advisory council and other community volunteer positions.
Major issues in this election: "Education does not seem to be a priority for this government. They need to bring to an end to the cutbacks in funding from what I consider the ‘foundation' of society and economics - our school system."
Why she believes she's a good candidate: "The many years I have been involved in the school system, as a parent and on special committees, has allowed me to be aware of issues concerning public education. These issues are very disconcerting and I hope to be able to alleviate the corrosion of the quality of education every child deserves."
